Armored Vehicle Driver (For U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé, Cameroon)
Summary:
This position is responsible for the safe transportation of high-level officials within Yaoundé and surrounding areas using a fully armored vehicle (FAV). The ideal candidate will possess strong driving skills, a keen eye for security, and the ability to interact professionally with dignitaries.
Responsibilities:
Operate an armored vehicle safely and securely to transport the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), Consul General (CG), and/or Principal Officer (PO).
Maintain the assigned FAV in a clean and serviceable condition, performing minor preventive maintenance tasks.
Act as a vigilant observer, preventing unauthorized access to the vehicle and surrounding area while waiting for passengers.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience in an international organization or large institution, with at least 1 year spent driving for high-level officials.
Knowledge:Mission’s protocol procedures for the Front Office.
State Department vehicle safety standards.
Motor pool rules and regulations.
Location of other Missions, government institutions, and NGOs in Yaoundé.
Local traffic laws and regulations.
In-country travel routes and areas.
General political climate in Cameroon (protests, demonstrations, riots).
Education: Completion of primary education is required.
Languages: Limited knowledge (reading, writing, and speaking) of English and French is required. Testing may be required.
Skills and Abilities:Valid Cameroonian driver’s license (Category B-C-D).
Proficiency in operating level C or D armored vehicles with defensive driving skills.
Ability to perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs.
Ability to detect and report vehicle defects promptly.
Excellent risk assessment and decision-making skills to ensure passenger safety.
Ability to interact professionally and calmly with high-level officials.
Basic computer skills for report generation and communication. Testing may be required.
